The 3M 6098 is a combination filter/cartridge designed to protect against:
Low boiling-point organic vapours/gases (i.e. organic compounds whose boiling point is below 65 °C)
Particulates (dusts, mists, aerosols) including highly toxic particles
It integrates a gas-vapour sorbent bed (activated carbon) with a particulate filter (P3) to provide dual protection.
It is categorized under AXP3 filters in 3M’s nomenclature, meaning an “AX” gas/vapour capability for low boiling organics + P3 particulate filtering.

Performance & Usage Considerations
The 6098 is rated for gas/vapour exposures below boiling point 65 °C (i.e. organic vapours with lower boiling points). It is not intended for all organic vapour applications—only for those specific compounds and concentrations listed in 3M’s documentation.
The filter includes limitations like maximum usage times for given concentrations, often expressed in parts per million (ppm) and minutes.
It is single use only: once the filter is exposed/used, it must be discarded. Re-using can lead to desorption or leakage of previously captured chemicals.
It is not suitable for use in atmospheres with unknown contaminant concentrations, immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) conditions, or in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
Cannot be used in flammable or explosive atmospheres or with open flames / metal droplets.
It is not designed to be cleaned or submerged in liquids. The filter must be kept dry; contamination by water, cleaning fluid, or compressed air can damage it.

Standard compliance: EN 14387:2004 + A1:2008 (for gas / vapour / particulate filters)
Classified as AXP3 R in several regions (the “R” meaning reusable in certain contexts until capacity is exhausted)
Material composition includes: polystyrene (filter body), activated carbon (gas/vapour sorbent), fibreglass (particulate filter)
The filter is typically supplied in pairs (2 units per pack)

Limitations & Cautions
Use only new, unopened filters; check expiry / “use-by” date before use.
Replace both cartridges (left and right) at the same time; do not mix types or classes.
If you can smell or taste contaminants inside the mask, if breathing resistance increases, or if the filter becomes damaged, you must leave the hazard area and replace the cartridge.
Not to be used beyond specified exposure durations; always follow change schedules or safety guidelines.
Beware of mixtures of gases/vapours not accounted for by the filter’s specification; some compounds may desorb or pass through under mixed exposures.
